  • Unclaimed Distributions

Unclaimed money is typically from dividends or distributions that have gone through a process of being paid out to beneficiaries by trusts and incorporations.

The common reasons for money going unclaimed are:

    • - If a beneficiary has not registered with the organisation
    • - Beneficiaries haven't updated their contact details
    • - Successors don't realise money is unclaimed from their tūpuna
    • - Successions haven't been completed

It is common for these to go funds to go unclaimed for generations as these are not always included when the Māori Land Court process searches for succession applications. Succession needs to be completed for funds to be distributed but in the case of most trusts, you still need to advise of unclaimed dividends they hold under your tūpuna name to receive those outstanding funds.
